Four-week course 16th, 23rd, 30th Sept & 7th Oct 2022 10am-2pm on a FRIDAY A small group course (3 max) Suitable for beginners and anyone wanting to improve their creativity, expand their general art knowledge and try some new techniques WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (this may vary according to group requirements but gives you an idea) This course combines colour, abstraction and landscape and focuses on creating an interpretation of the photographic artwork 'Secret Lawrenny Skies'. Week one we'll spend the day playing with colour and producing an abstract piece on paper or canvas using the two key colour signatures of cadmium orange and cerulean blue. This will be playful and we'll use brushes and palette knives to drip and flick as well as touching on how colour glazes can transform a painting. In week two we'll play with movement and light in a charcoal drawing before beginning our expressionistic landscape paintings. We'll continue with our paintings in weeks three and four looking at how we can use colour contrast to maximum effect and play with shapes and movement within our paintings. You will go home with a fully fleshed out landscape painting full of energy, light and colour. WHAT'S INCLUDED The session includes all materials and equipment (except brushes), tuition and venue hire. WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BRING Brushes are always best looked after by their owners - therefore please bring along a range of large brushes including: a 1-2” decorators brush, something like a number 8 long filbert bristle brush or large short flat brush, and one smaller round brush. The Daler Rowney Graduate brush range is very good. The Windsor & Newton Winton Short Flat no 20 is an alternative to the decorators brush but a little more expensive. You’ll need to wear suitable clothing, bring lunch, refreshments, and a hand towel. WHERE TO BUY BRUSHES: The brushes I have suggested above are all available from West of Wales Art Supplies on Market Street in Haverfordwest (see Jeff). You can also get them on-line.
